George Springer hit a three-run home run in the eighth inning and the Toronto Blue Jays came back to defeat the visiting Boston Red Sox 9-8 Sunday afternoon to win the four-game series 3-1.
Springer's 14th homer of the season came against Matt Barnes (6-4) with two out, helping the Blue Jays complete a 9-2 homestand.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit his 35th homer of the season, a two-run drive in the fifth, for Toronto.
J.D. Martinez had four hits and three RBIs and Kevin Plawecki added three hits and three RBIs for the Red Sox, who won the season series 10-9. Boston completed a 2-8 road trip.
Boston right-hander Garrett Richards allowed four runs (three earned), six hits and one walk in five innings.
Toronto left-hander Hyun Jin Ryu allowed seven runs, 10 hits and one walk in 3 2/3 innings.
Rafael Dolis (2-3) allowed one hit in 1 1/3 innings to get the win. Jordan Romano pitched a perfect ninth to earn his 10th save.
Toronto scored once in the first on an RBI single by Corey Dickerson.
Boston took a 3-1 lead in the second on an RBI double by Martinez and RBI singles by Plawecki and Enrique Hernandez.
Xander Bogaerts and Rafael Devers started the third with singles and Plawecki knocked them both in with a double.
Toronto scored once in the bottom of the third. Springer reached second on a throwing error by Devers on a grounder to third, and Teoscar Hernandez hit an RBI single.
Patrick Murphy replaced Ryu with two outs in the fourth after Boston loaded the bases on two singles and a walk. Martinez hit a two-run single. Plawecki added an RBI single to give Boston the 7-2 lead.
Bobby Dalbec hit an RBI single in the sixth against Kirby Snead to make the lead 8-4.
Hirokazu Sawamura walked Springer to lead off the seventh. He threw three straight balls to Guerrero, including two wild pitches, before being removed after the second visit by a trainer. Adam Ottavino completed the walk and allowed Marcus Semien's sacrifice fly, scoring Springer. Guerrero stole second and Hernandez hit an RBI single.
Boston was without outfielder Alex Verdugo (paternity leave).
