Right-hander Aaron Civale allowed one hit over eight scoreless innings and struck out a career-high 11 to become the American League's first nine-game winner as the Cleveland Indians defeated the visiting Seattle Mariners 7-0 Friday night.

Bobby Bradley homered for the Indians in the opener of a three-game series at Progressive Field.

Civale (9-2) allowed a leadoff single to J.P. Crawford in the first inning. With two outs, Ty France was hit by a pitch and Jake Fraley walked to load the bases. Civale got Shed Long Jr. to ground out to first base to end the threat and didn't allow a baserunner over his final seven innings, retiring the final 22 batters he faced.

Seattle right-hander Justin Dunn (1-3), activated from the 10-day injured list earlier in the day after experiencing right shoulder inflammation, allowed runs in each of his three innings as the Indians built an early 5-0 lead.

Cleveland scored three runs in the first, as its first five batters reached base. Cesar Hernandez led off with a walk and Amed Rosario blooped a single into shallow center, the first of his four hits. Jose Ramirez lined a single to left to load the bases. Eddie Rosario hit a run-scoring single to right before Bradley drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 2-0. Josh Naylor lined a one-out single to center to score another run, but Eddie Rosario was thrown out at the plate by center fielder Dillon Thomas.

Bradley Zimmer led off the bottom of the second with an infield single, advanced to second on an errant pickoff attempt and took third as Amed Rosario singled. Ramirez drove in the run with a single to right.

Bradley homered leading off the bottom of the third to make it 5-0.

There was a scary moment later in the inning as Dunn beaned Cleveland's Austin Hedges. After being attended to by the Indians' training staff, Hedges took his base but left in the fifth inning.

Dunn allowed five runs on nine hits in three innings, with two walks and three strikeouts.

The Indians added two runs in the sixth off right-hander Will Vest. With one out, Amed Rosario singled and Ramirez walked. Bradley and Harold Ramirez hit run-scoring singles with two outs to make it 7-0.

Mitch Haniger singled in the ninth off right-hander Blake Parker for Seattle's only other hit.
