Steven Duggar homered and Anthony DeSclafani allowed one hit over five scoreless innings Thursday as the visiting San Francisco Giants downed the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-1 in a series opener.

Mike Yastrzemski added an RBI triple for the Giants, who have won three games in a row.

DeSclafani (3-1) walked one and struck out five. The only hit he gave up was Jacob Stallings' single in the first.

Tyler Rogers pitched the ninth for his third save.

Will Craig homered for the Pirates, who are 3-11 in their past 14.

Pittsburgh starter Wil Crowe (0-2) pitched five innings, giving up three runs and six hits, with one walk and five strikeouts.

Crowe cruised through four innings, giving up two hits, before things went south in the fifth.

With one out, Duggar homered to right-center for a 1-0 lead. It was his first homer since June 2019. He was not originally in the starting lineup but was added to play center field for LaMonte Wade Jr., who moved to first base after Brandon Belt was a late scratch because of nagging left side tightness.

After DeSclafani struck out, Mike Tauchman and Buster Posey hit back-to-back singles to center, with Tauchman landing at third. With Yastrzemski at bat, Tauchman scored when Stallings, the Pittsburgh catcher, attempted a pickoff throw that was slightly offline and went off the glove of third baseman Erik Gonzalez, making it 2-0.

Yastrzemski then tripled to the corner in right, bringing Posey home for a 3-0 lead.

With two outs in the sixth, Mauricio Dubon hit a single to left and Duggar walked. Somewhat curiously, the Giants pulled DeSclafani, who had thrown just 76 pitches, for pinch-hitter Darin Ruf, who hit into an inning-ending fielder's choice.

Bryan Reynolds led off the seventh with a double to right off reliever Zack Littell, the Pirates' first baserunner since Stallings' single in the first. Reynolds got stranded.

Craig, called up earlier in the day, got his first major-league homer, a shot to right-center with one out in the eighth off Camilo Doval that cut it to 3-1.
