Austin Barnes and David Freese each hit home runs Tuesday as the Los Angeles Dodgers overcame a four-run deficit and rolled to an 11-4 victory over the New York Mets at Dodger Stadium.
Rich Hill was tagged for two early home runs but rebounded to pitch six innings as the Dodgers won for the ninth time in their past 11 games. They remain a half-game behind the Colorado Rockies, who lead the National League West.
Jay Bruce and Michael Conforto hit two-run home runs for the Mets, who saw their three-game win streak come to an end. The Mets are 4-4 on their three-city, nine-game road trip that ends Wednesday in Los Angeles.
Bruce hit his two-run home run in the third inning, his fifth. Conforto hit his two-run shot in the third inning, his 21st, as the Mets took a 4-0 lead.
Barnes started the Dodgers' comeback in the bottom of the third with a two-run home run, just his second of the season and his first since May 3. Freese brought the Dodgers within a run with his 10th home run leading off the fourth. The infielder was acquired in a trade from the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday.
The Dodgers tied the game 4-4 in the fourth when Enrique Hernandez scored on a Barnes ground ball that was misplayed by Mets third baseman Todd Frazier for an error. Branes eventually scored on a fielder's choice ground ball from Brian Dozier.
The Dodgers put away the game with a six-run seventh inning. Yasmani Grandal had a two-run single in the inning, after Manny Machado, Hernandez and Freese each drove in a run. Machado added another run when he scored from second base on a wild pitch by Mets reliever Corey Oswalt.
Hill (7-5) gave up four runs on seven hits over six innings with one walk and eight strikeouts. It was the first time he won a game this season when giving up more than two runs.
Mets starter Jason Vargas (5-9) gave up five runs (four earned) over 3 1/3 innings after giving up a total of five earned runs combined over his previous four outings.
