Right-hander Luis Castillo pitched seven shutout innings, and Scooter Gennett belted a two-run home run off Zach Eflin on Sunday afternoon, powering the Cincinnati Reds to a 4-0 win and a surprising series victory over the visiting Philadelphia Phillies.

Castillo (6-8) teamed with David Hernandez, Wandy Peralta and Raisel Iglesias on an eight-hitter, just the Reds' third shutout of the season. Cincinnati earned three straight wins after the first-place Phillies had won the opener of the four-game series 9-4 on Thursday.

Held to five hits through eight innings, the Phillies threatened in the ninth when Odubel Herrera led off against Peralta with a single and Nick Williams added a single one out later.

Iglesias came on to give up a single to Maikel Franco to load the bases with one out before striking out Scott Kingery on a full count and Andrew Knapp on four pitches when each represented the potential tying run.

Iglesias was credited with his 21st save.

Gennett's homer, his 17th of the season, came in the third inning and gave the Reds a 3-0 lead. The blast also brought home Curt Casali, whose double earlier in the inning had plated Phil Ervin to open the scoring.

Castillo allowed singles in the first four innings before retiring the side in order in the fifth, sixth and seventh. He completed his seven shutout innings having given up four hits and one walk while striking out nine.

It was just the second time in Castillo's 37-start career that he participated in a shutout. The other came last July 8 at Arizona, a 7-0 win in which he went the first 6 2/3 innings.

Right-hander Tyler Mahle started the Reds' other two shutouts this season.

Ervin, whose leadoff double had triggered the three-run third, drove in the Reds' final run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth after singles by Mason Williams and Adam Duvall.

Eflin (7-3) worked 5 1/3 innings, allowing four runs and seven hits. He walked one and struck out four.

The Phillies were shut out for the seventh time this season.

Gennett, Mason Williams and Joey Votto had two hits apiece for the Reds, who completed a 5-5 homestand.

Herrera, Franco and Nick Williams collected two hits apiece for the Phillies, who won the season series 4-3 from the Reds by capturing the first four meetings.
