Yankees 9, Twins 7: Jacoby Ellsbury homered and had four RBIs as New York beat host Minnesota for the third time in four games.
Ichiro Suzuki went 3-for-4 and scored twice for the Yankees and Derek Jeter drove in two runs and had three hits to raise his career total to 3,400. New York had 14 hits overall and built a 9-0 lead before holding off the Twins.
Hiroki Kuroda (6-6) gave up four runs and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings. David Robertson allowed Oswaldo Arcia’s RBI single in the ninth and Minnesota had runners on first and third before retiring Kurt Suzuki on a grounder for his 21st save.
New York touched up Ricky Nolasco (5-7) for six runs and seven hits over the first two innings. Mark Teixeira had a run-scoring single and Brian McCann blasted an RBI double off the right-center field wall in the first inning before Ellsbury capped a four-run second with a three-run blast to right.
Jeter’s RBI single drove in the first run of a three-run fourth before Minnesota chipped away with four runs in the bottom of the inning on Arcia’s single, Trevor Plouffe’s double and Chris Colabello’s two-run homer to left-center field. The Twins pulled within 9-6 on a solo homer in the eighth by Plouffe, who went 3-for-4 and scored twice.
