Phillies 6, Rockies 3: Ryan Howard belted a three-run homer with two out in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift Philadelphia.
After Chase Utley's two-out RBI single against Boone Logan tied the game, Howard belted Logan's 2-2 offering out to left-center to give him four RBIs in the game and nine in the two contests he started in the series. Jonathan Papelbon (1-1) pitched a perfect ninth to earn the victory while LaTroy Hawkins (2-1) took the loss.
Marlon Byrd also drove in a run for Philadelphia, which survived issuing nine walks. After Cesar Hernandez flew out to start the ninth against Hawkins, Tony Gwynn Jr. reached on Josh Rutledge's throwing error, Ben Revere singled and Jimmy Rollins flew out to set the stage for Utley, who laced a sharp single to right on a 3-1 pitch.
DJ LeMahieu's first home run of the season broke a 2-2 tie in the eighth and Justin Morneau also homered, while Wilin Rosario added an RBI double for the Rockies, who left a season-high 15 on base and were 0-for-13 with runners in scoring position. Colorado hasn't won a regular-season series in Philadelphia since 2004.
Morneau hit the first pitch of the third inning out to right for his 10th homer of the season, and three batters later Rosario delivered an RBI double. The Phillies made it 2-1 in the bottom half when Utley doubled with two out and Howard followed with a single, and Byrd tied it with an RBI single with two out in the fifth.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Philadelphia's Roberto Hernandez yielded two runs, six hits and five walks in 5 2/3 innings while Colorado's Jordan Lyles allowed two runs, five hits and four walks while striking out five in five frames. ... Rollins played his 2,000th game and is second in club history to Mike Schmidt (2,404). ... Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez did not start after leaving Tuesday's contest with a contusion when he fouled a ball off his right calf while SS Troy Tulowitzki (sore legs) was also out of the starting lineup as the Rockies continue to be careful with their NL MVP candidate, who has a long history of injuries. Both players pinch hit in the seventh inning and, after Gonzalez rolled into a 1-2-3 double play with the bases loaded, Tulowitzki struck out on three pitches.
