Yankees 6, Orioles 5: Derek Jeter singled in the winning run in the ninth inning in his final home contest as New York split a four-game set with Baltimore.

The Orioles staged a furious three-run comeback in the top of the ninth off David Robertson (4-5), getting a two-run blast from Adam Jones and a solo shot by Steve Pearce to even it at 5-5. The Yankees quickly countered with a leadoff single in the bottom half by Jose Pirela, while pinch-runner Antoan Richardson moved ahead to second on a sacrifice bunt by Brett Gardner before Jeter lined a shot through the hole into right off Evan Meek (0-4) to end it.

Jeter went 2-for-5 with three RBIs and Brian McCann drove in a pair of runs for the Yankees (82-77), who guaranteed themselves their 22nd consecutive winning season with only their sixth victory in 19 tries against the Orioles this season. Nick Markakis and Alejandro De Aza each went deep for Baltimore (95-64), which fell three games behind the Los Angeles Angels (98-61) for home-field advantage in the American League playoffs.

Markakis and De Aza went deep to stake Baltimore to a quick two-run lead before Hiroki Kuroda could record an out, but the 39-year-old right-hander did not allow another baserunner after De Aza singled with one out in the third. Jeter quickly evened it up in the bottom half of the first, doubling off the top of the wall in left-center to plate Gardner before scoring on an error from Orioles second baseman Kelly Johnson.

The game remained deadlocked until the seventh when the Yankees used a passed ball following a third strike, a walk and a bunt single to load the bases off T.J. McFarland, who yielded to Ryan Webb after a fielder’s choice grounder by Gardner led to the first out of the inning. Jeter grounded to J.J. Hardy moments later, but the two-time Gold Glove shortstop threw wide of second, allowing two runs to score before McCann made it 5-2 with a sacrifice fly.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Jeter’s first-inning double was the 544th of his career, moving him past Tony Gwynn for 28th place in major-league history. … Orioles starter Kevin Gausman gave up two runs and three hits while recording only two outs against his first six batters, but allowed only two baserunners (on an error and a walk) over his final 4 1/3 innings. Kuroda struck out nine and did not walk a batter in eight frames. … Thursday marked only the second game in Jeter’s 20-year career – and first at home – that his team was mathematically eliminated from postseason consideration.
