Diamondbacks 4, Braves 3 (11): Gerardo Parra's bloop single in the bottom of the 11th scored Cody Ross as host Arizona rallied in the ninth and 10th innings before squaring the weekend series at one game apiece.
Ross singled to center with one out in the 11th off David Carpenter (4-1), moved to second on Didi Gregorius’ walk and came home when Parra's hit dropped in short center field. Randall Delgado (1-1) pitched a scoreless 11th for the victory and Martin Prado finished with three hits for Arizona.
Atlanta blew save opportunities in the ninth and 10th with Craig Kimbrel allowing Aaron Hill’s pinch-hit double in the ninth and Anthony Varvaro surrendering Miguel Montero’s solo homer in the 10th. Jason Heyward homered off Addison Reed in the top of the 10th, and Evan Gattis finished with three hits for the Braves.
The Braves moved ahead 2-1 in the sixth on Gattis’ double to left-center, but Kimbrel walked Ender Inciarte with one out in the ninth and Hill lined a double down the right-field line to tie the game. Heyward extended his hitting streak to 11 by hammering Reed’s 0-1 fastball into the right-field seats with two outs in the 10th, but Montero smashed a 2-1 Varvaro pitch deep into the left-field seats to tie the game in the bottom half.
The two teams swapped early unearned runs. Arizona scored in the second when Dan Uggla threw away a potential inning-ending double play on Inciarte’s grounder to score Prado, and the Braves tying the game in the third when Andrelton Simmons doubled, reached third on an error and beat the throw home on Heyward’s grounder to third.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Atlanta starter Ervin Santana allowed one unearned run on six hits in seven innings, while Arizona’s Wade Miley held the Braves to two runs (one earned) on six hits in seven innings with no walks and five strikeouts. … Arizona finished 2-for-17 with runners in scoring position. … Uggla started for just the fourth time since May 7, going 0-for-4 and has three hits in his past 43 at-bats with 14 strikeouts.
