Giants 4, Dodgers 3: Hunter Pence drove in four runs and Matt Cain worked into the eighth inning as San Francisco completed a three-game sweep of visiting Los Angeles and extended its winning streak to six games.
After going winless in six April starts, Cain (1-2) turned in a superb effort while giving up one run on five hits over 7 1/3 innings. Sergio Romo worked a perfect ninth and converted his 12th save in 13 opportunities.
Pence drove in the Giants’ four runs with a groundout in the first and doubles in the third and fifth off Dodgers starter Hyun-Jin Ryu (3-2), who allowed four runs on eight hits over six frames. Andres Torres added three hits for the Giants, who have won 10 of their last 12 home games.
The Dodgers, who have lost four straight games and six of their last eight, rallied in the eighth when pinch hitter Adrian Gonzalez drove in two runs with a bases-loaded single off Jeremy Affeldt and Dee Gordon followed with a run-scoring single.
The Giants escaped further damage when Jean Machi replaced Affeldt and induced an inning-ending groundout by Jerry Hairston Jr. with runners at first and second. The Dodgers, who begin a nine-game homestand on Monday against Arizona, lost all three games of the series by one run.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Cain has allowed one run over 13 1/3 innings covering two starts against the Dodgers this season. He has a 6.49 ERA in his other five starts. … Giants CF Angel Pagan missed the game with a right hamstring strain and is listed as day-to-day. … Gonzalez was scratched from the starting lineup for the third straight game with a stiff neck.
