Dodgers 3, Padres 2: Pinch hitter Juan Uribe hit a go-ahead homer in the eighth inning and visiting Los Angeles edged San Diego in a game marred by a bench-clearing brawl.
Adrian Gonzalez added a two-run homer for the Dodgers, who were leading 2-1 when starter Zack Greinke hit Carlos Quentin with a 3-2 pitch leading off the bottom of the sixth. Quentin was ejected after charging the mound and Greinke suffered a broken left collarbone.
The Dodgers’ Matt Kemp and Jerry Hairston Jr. were also ejected during the incident, which resulted in a delay of 13 minutes. When play resumed, the Padres pulled even when pinch runner Alexi Amarista scored on Yonder Alonso’s single off Chris Capuano.
Matt Guerrier (1-0) earned the win after retiring one batter in the seventh while Kenley Jansen worked a scoreless ninth for his first save. The Dodgers, who have won five of their last six games, host the Padres for three games next week.
Uribe hit his second homer of the series on a 3-2 pitch with one out in the eighth off Luke Gregerson (1-1), giving the Dodgers their second straight one-run victory over the Padres. A.J. Ellis had three of the Dodgers' 11 hits.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Padres have been outscored 18-4 in the first three innings of their first nine games. … Quentin, who was hit on the right forearm in the series opener on Tuesday, has been hit 97 times since the start of the 2008 season – the most in the majors. … San Diego starter Jason Marquis allowed two runs on seven hits over five innings.
