Rays 5, Red Sox 2: David Price struck out a season-high 13 in his second complete game of the year and Jeff Keppinger slammed a three-run homer to power visiting Tampa Bay to its sixth consecutive victory.
Price (19-5) joined Jered Weaver as the only 19-game winners in the American League, allowing two runs on seven hits with no walks to keep the Rays three games behind Oakland for the second wild card.
Jose Molina added a two-run single in the sixth inning to increase the lead to 5-1 for Tampa Bay, which was staked to a 3-0 lead in the second inning when Keppinger followed leadoff walks to Evan Longoria and Luke Scott with a towering homer that hit the light tower over the wall in left field.
Boston's Clay Buchholz (11-7), who blanked the Rays for seven innings last Thursday, allowed five runs - four earned - on eight hits in six innings to fall to 0-4 in his last seven starts.
Price allowed a single by Danny Valencia in the second and balked in a run in the third, but gave up just one hit thereafter to improve to 11-1 in his last 17 starts and surpass 200 strikeouts for the second straight year.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Molina was forced to leave the game after suffering a strained right quadriceps while running out his two-run single in the sixth inning. ... Red Sox CF Jacoby Ellsbury sat out his fourth consecutive game with an undisclosed injury, although manager Bobby Valentine said he felt good enough to play. ... Prior to the game, the Red Sox honored the 2004 team that ended an 86-year World Series championship drought by erasing a 3-0 series deficit against the New York Yankees and sweeping St. Louis in the Fall Classic.
